Arab League denounces desecration of Ibrahimi Mosque by Israeli regime president – world news

In a statement released on Sunday, the Arab League said the mosque’s incursion was in line with Israel’s continued and persistent policy of Judaizing Islamic and Christian holy sites, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

The regional organization stressed that this decision constitutes a lack of respect and a provocation of the feelings of all Muslims.

The holy site was divided into a synagogue, known to Jews as the Cave of the Patriarchs, and a mosque after American-born Israeli settler Baruch Goldstein slaughtered 29 Palestinians inside the mosque in 1994. Since then therefore, Muslim worshipers were prevented from accessing the site during Jewish holidays.

On Sunday evening, during the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, Zionist regime president Isaac Herzog, amid strict military measures, participated in a candle-lighting ceremony at the mosque during his planned visit to the holy site.

Israeli forces closed the doors of the mosque and prevented Palestinian residents, who had gathered to denounce the visit, from praying or being near the site.

Israeli forces also attacked protesters in an attempt to disperse crowds of angry Palestinians.

Israeli troops even forced traders to close their stores and hampered the work of Palestinian news teams in an attempt to prevent them from covering the intrusion.

What the city of Hebron is exposed to, in particular the Ibrahimi Mosque, and the assault planned by the Israeli president confirms the persistence of the occupation authorities in continuing their aggression and racism, the Arab League added.

The pan-Arab organization also stressed that the visit proved Israel’s continued official and organized terrorism against the Palestinian people, their rights and their sanctity.

The organization added that the new incursion into the Ibrahimi Mosque was in line with the occupying entity’s policy of Judaizing al-Quds by targeting the al-Aqsa Mosque and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories.

The Arab League further called on the international community, in particular the United Nations, to condemn Israel’s targeting of Islamic and Christian shrines, including this intrusion, and to take the necessary measures to deal with such acts of aggression. .
