Defense Headquarters (DHQ) said Operation HADIN KAI troops killed 73 Boko Haram terrorists and rescued 55 victims in Borno State.

Acting Director, Defense Media Operations Brigadier General Benard Onyeuko revealed this during an update on military operations across the country between June 18 and June 30, 2021.

He said the operations have yielded concomitant successes in various theaters across the country.

He said the troops carried out ambushes, demining and responded to distress calls, repelled terrorist attacks on troop locations and dominated the theater of operations.

DHQ spokesman said the air component of Operation HADIN KAI also conducted a series of intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and air interdiction missions to reveal and destroy terrorist enclaves and their supplies. and logistics equipment.

General Onyeuko added that troops systematically hit BHT / ISWAP strongholds throughout the theater of operations.

He said that during the offensives several terrorists were killed and a lot of equipment and weapons were captured.

“A total of 73 BHT were killed with 44 AK 47 rifles, 2 PKT, 7 Ant Aircraft guns, 7 gun trucks, several ammunition of different calibers as well as weapons cleaning equipment, clothing, blankets, foodstuffs, vehicles, generators, IED materials. , religious scriptures and other artifacts were recovered in the process.

“A total of 55 escapees from the terrorist camps comprising 15 adult men, 12 adult women and 27 children surrendered to their own troops in Darajemel in Borno state,” he said.

He further stated that the air component of Operation HADIN KAI, in multiple coordinated airstrikes, destroyed the strongholds of some terrorist commanders in the Lake Chad axis of Borno State.

Onyeuko said the airstrikes targeted various terrorist camps in the towns of Sabon Tumbu, Jibularam and Kwalaram in the state.

“During the air operations, the spiritual base and terrorist training camps in the northeast of Borno State and the fringes of Lake Chad were destroyed by aerial bombardment,” he added. .

He said the air offensives were carried out following a credible intelligence report which revealed that some of the top ISWAP / BHT commanders were holding a meeting at the said locations.

“As a result, the air component mobilized with force sets from NAF platforms and launched attacks on the scene,” he said.

In the war on banditry, he said Operation HADARIN DAJI troops and other security agencies operating in the Northwest area simultaneously carried out a series of land and air operations.

He said that intelligence-led troops raided the hideouts of bandits and kidnappers as well as drug traffickers in Gusau – Magami Road in the Gusau LGA of Zamfara State; Makuku in the Sakaba LGA of Kebbi State; as well as the LGAs of Batsari and Jibia in Katsina State. Other locations include Unguwar Kade Village in Tsafe LGA and Bingi Village in Bungudu LGA of Zamfara State.

He noted that the operations led to pushing back and arresting kidnappers and drug traffickers who confessed to providing illicit drugs to minors as well as other criminal elements.

The operations also led to the neutralization of certain armed bandits; peaceful resolution of conflicts between farmers and herders; the recovery of weapons and ammunition; and the recovery of stolen livestock.

Other successes, he said, included the rescue of kidnapping victims from various locations, including a teacher and students kidnapped from Federal Government College in Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State, as well as the arrest and rescue. of some cattle trucks stolen from different parts of the theater.

General Onyeuko said troops also intercepted and arrested some snipers and bandits providing logistics, including a Lawali Na Habu with trucks loaded with large amounts of AGO at Tangaza LGA in Sokoto State and a Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu , a notorious bandit wanted.

In the north-central, he said, troops have conducted both kinetic and non-kinetic operations with great success.
He said troops from Operations Awatse and Delta have had commendable successes against criminal contractors and recovered stolen goods, eliminated criminals and recovered weapons.

The DHQ spokesperson on behalf of the military high command praised the efforts of the troops to keep pace and urged the general public to support the military efforts by providing credible and timely information that will facilitate its proactive engagements.
