Pakistani law enforcement officials have reportedly arrested at least nine terrorists, including a young woman, believed to be from Islamic State (IS) and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), officials said on Saturday, according to a report. of the PTI.

According to a statement, the Counterterrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab province arrested nine terrorists. Six of them belong to the TTP and the others to the IS.

“The CTD carried out 42 IBOs (intelligence-based operations) in different districts of the Punjab and arrested nine suspects,” read the statement quoted by PTI.

“The three ISIS activists were raising funds to financially support the missing organization, distributing banned books among people and motivating people to join the organization (IS),” CTD said.

At the same time, a recent US State Department report on global terrorism found that Pakistan had made “limited progress” on the more difficult aspects of its 2015 national action plan against terrorism, because he pledged to dismantle the terrorist organizations operating inside the country without “delay or discrimination”.

The 2020 National Terrorism Reports, which were released on Thursday, December 16, said terrorist groups continued to operate from Pakistan regionally.

The report mentioned that groups targeting India, including LeT and its affiliated front organizations and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) continued to operate from Pakistani territory.

The report specifically mentioned that Pakistan had taken no action against JeM founder and UN-designated terrorist Masood Azhar and 2008 Mumbai attack “project leader” Sajid Mir. The two are believed to remain free in Pakistan, according to the report.
