Atiku donates 10 million naira to victims of Ondo church attack

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has donated N10 million for the treatment of victims of the June 5, 2022 terrorist attack on St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo , Ondo State.

Atiku, who paid a condolence visit to the Owo Kingdom, condemned the killing of the armless devotees.

Atiku was represented by the state’s PDP candidate in the last gubernatorial election, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) and members of the party’s state working committee.

Speaking at Olowo Palace, the Jegede told Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye that the current security situation we find ourselves in is a call to duty for everyone to be more vigilant and security conscious.

According to him, the issue of insecurity is not a matter of politics but people have to stand with the people who will ensure that they are out of the situation we are in now in this country.

He said, “I am here on behalf of my party, the National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, our party’s candidate for the upcoming presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and all PDP members in the state of ‘Ondo.

“Atiku Abubakar ordered that a sum of 10 million naira be released immediately for the treatment of the victims.

“We are here to offer our condolences for the terrorist attack on St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-Iuwa Street, Owo. We pray that such a thing will not happen again in our country.

“We can’t go on like this. It’s a call to duty for all of us to be more vigilant, aware and ready to protect ourselves.

“It’s not about politics. We need to stand with people who will make sure we are out of this situation that we find ourselves in in this country.

While welcoming the delegation, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye, appreciated the gift from the PDP presidential candidate.

Oba Ogunoye, said: “When the incident happened, you sent a message and the message was soothing and it was balm for us.

“Owo is a land of peace and we are accommodating. No one has ever conquered us and no one will defeat us. We are already taking steps to ensure that this act does not happen again.

“Eyitayo Jegede, you are a calm, knowledgeable leader. You are a leader and you will continue to be a leader.
