DSS arrests Boko Haram leader in Ogun

Concern reigned in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Sunday following the arrest of a suspected Boko Haram leader.

The suspect was arrested by agents of the Department of State Security Services (DSS).

A reliable source told the Daily Trust that the suspected leader of Boko Haram was arrested in Ijaye district of Abeokuta.

The source said the suspect initially put up resistance before bowing to the superior power of the DSS officers.

The operation was carried out at night, the source told the Daily Trust on Sunday evening.

The suspected terrorist reportedly arrived in Abeokuta from Katsina, held a security post in Ijaye, while gathering intelligence on terrorist attacks.

A security source said he moved to Abeokuta to set up a terrorist cell for kidnappings and terrorist attacks.

And after intelligence gathering, the armed security officers stormed his hiding place and picked him up.

“It was not an easy race. The intelligence and the grace of God was enough for the agents. There are still many, but we are in top form,” the source said.

Our correspondent understands that the suspect is still being held by the DSS.

]The development comes amid reports of the terrorists’ alleged plan to attack some South West states.

When contacted by Daily Trust, DSS spokesperson Dr Peter Afunanya neither denied nor confirmed the arrest.

“No comment,” he said, responding to an SMS from our correspondent.

State police public relations officers Abimbola Oyeyemi said he was not aware of any arrests.
