Financial ties exist between Sunday Igboho and terrorist financier, Nigerian government says
The Nigerian government said on Friday that its investigation established a link between Sunday Adeyemo and a suspected terrorist financier.
Federation Attorney General Abubakar Malami revealed this while addressing reporters in Abuja on the update on the investigations into Mr. Adeyemo and Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Mr. Adeyemo, commonly known as Sunday Igboho, is pushing for an independent country for the Yoruba. The separatist, currently detained in the Republic of Benin, has repeatedly insisted that he uses only peaceful means to achieve his goal.
Mr. Malami said government findings show that a company controlled by Mr. Adeyemo transferred 12.75 million naira to one controlled by Abdullahi Usman, who is suspected of financing terrorism in Nigeria.
He said: âThe investigation reveals that Adesun International Concept Ltd (owned by Igboho) transferred the sum of twelve million seven hundred and fifty thousand naira (N12, 750,000) to Abbal Bako & Sons.
âIt should be remembered that Abbal Bako & Sons and its promoter Abdullahi Umar Usman are suspects in the ongoing joint terrorist financing investigation. Abdullahi Umar Usman is through a financial transaction linked to SURAJO ABUBAKAR MUHAMMAD (who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the UAE for financing terrorism [Boko Haram]).
âThis report shows the link between the separatist agitation, the financing of terrorism and the disturbance of the peace in the country.
Mr Malami also said the report revealed “financial transaction links between Adesun International Concept Ltd (owned by Igboho) and certain companies and construction firms, among others”.
Federal lawmaker funds Sunday Igboho
The government has also echoed President Muhammadu Buhari’s remark on Independence Day that a sitting federal lawmaker is among Mr. Adeyemo’s sponsors.
“The main financier of the fugitive and the separatists turned out to be a federal lawmaker in the National Assembly,” Malami said.
He also said Sunday Igboho “is linked to 43 bank accounts at nine banks”.
