Nation mourns Lakki Marwat terrorist attack

Pakistan expressed its shock and condemnation of the Lakki Marwat terrorist attack and urged the security authorities to take strict counter-terrorism measures. The nation mourns the loss of the six police officers martyred in the attack.

Earlier, unknown miscreants opened fire on a mobile during a routine patrol in Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Six police officers – including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) – were killed in the gun attack.

Martyred cops include ASI Ilm Deen, Detective Foot Constable Ahmed Nawaz, Lower Chief Constable Zubair, Border Reserve Police sepoy Usman Ali, Constable Mahmood Khan and Driver Dil Jan.

On the other hand, reports are emerging that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attack came amid an upsurge in violence in KP and as citizens continue to stage frequent protests, demanding peace be restored. Following the Lakki Marwat incident, citizens are alarmed at the resurgence of terrorist attacks in the Pashtun belt.

Meanwhile, CM Mahmood Khan became aware of the incident and requested a report from the KP Inspector General of Police (IGP). CM KP said that the elements involved in this inhuman act would be stopped at all costs, adding that the sacrifice of the martyrs would not be in vain.

Members of the journalist community have also expressed concern over the upsurge in terrorist attacks in Pakistan.

“Six police officers died today when activists ambushed a mobile police van in Wanda Shahabkhel, a dusty village in Lakki Marwat district, North West KP province. The bodies of some police officers killed were charred beyond recognition. The province is under attack almost daily,” said journalist Rehmat Mehsud.
