Jufri Jawhar Damudi, an IS member wanted in this case, was arrested in Bhatkal by the NIA.

Jufri, a resident of Bhatkal in the Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka, was arrested in a joint NIA and Karnataka police operation.

Jufri was in contact with ISIS leaders currently operating in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region who provided him with propaganda material and also gave instructions for its dissemination, the NIA said.

To this end, the agency said that Jufri created several pseudonymous identities on encrypted chat platforms and was also a member of various ISIS online propaganda channels.

The case was registered on June 29 this year at the NIA police station here in the nation’s capital in connection with the plot of the banned terrorist organization ISIS to radicalize and recruit impressionable young Muslims in India to carry out jihad. violent against the Indian state, the agency mentioned.

“ISIS terrorists operating from various conflict zones as well as ISIS cadres in India have created a network by assuming pseudo-online identities in which propaganda material linked to the state ISIS is being broadcast to radicalize and recruit members into the fold of ISIS, “the NIA said.

Previously, the NIA had carried out several searches in Jammu and Kashmir on July 11 this year and arrested three accused persons, namely Umar Nisar, Tanveer Ahmad Bhat and Rameez Ahmad Lone, all residents of Achabal in Anantnag.

“A cyber entity ‘Abu Hazir Al Badri’, a key ISIS operative who is involved in the translation of Voice of Hind into the languages ​​of South India and its subsequent dissemination has been identified as Jufri Jawhar Damudi. ” This cyber identity has also been used to radicalize and recruit people, the NIA said, adding that Jawhar is the younger brother of Adnan Hasan Damudi who was arrested for ISIS-related activities in 2016 and is currently in detention. in a separate NIA case.

During searches carried out today, the counterterrorism agency said, a large number of digital devices such as cell phones, hard drives, SD cards, etc. were seized. (ANI)
