Operations against terrorists in Kashmir Valley to continue ahead of Amarnath Yatra
New Delhi, April 29 (IANS): Security forces will continue operations in the Kashmir Valley to root out the remaining terrorists, security sources said on Friday.
According to the sources, there are nearly 150 terrorists active in the Kashmir Valley, majority of whom were active in districts such as Baramulla, Budgam, Kupwara and Pulwama and nearly 65 have been neutralized so far.
Sources also said that around 85-95 terrorists are still present in the Kashmir Valley and may be in hiding due to ongoing counter-terrorism operations and need to be neutralized before the start of the Amarnath Yatra – after a hiatus of two years – June 30. .
“We have to provide an infallible security cover to the Amarnath Yatra this year as a large number of devotees are expected this year, therefore, these anti-Indian elements must be neutralized before the Yatra starts,” said an officer from commander level in declared central paramilitary forces.
Shortly after the incidents of targeted killings of Kashmiri pandits, non-Muslims and migrant workers in Kashmir in October-November last year, the security forces developed a high level security grid with the human and technical intelligence aid in which synchronized operations were planned and resulted in accurate and successful operations against terrorists.
The officials also said that breaking the network of sleeper cells and surface workers of terrorist groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad and Al Badr is also among the security forces’ top priorities and strategy. . is monitored in ongoing operations.
The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the elite J&K Police Counter-Terrorist Unit played an important role in these operations as they know well the locality where these terrorists were hiding or taking refuge.
Of these 62 terrorists killed, 32 terrorists were neutralized in just three months after joining the ranks of terror. Of the terrorists killed, 39 were linked to the LeT terrorist group, 15 to the JeM, 6 to the Hizbul Mujahideen and two to Al Badr. The terrorists killed include 47 local terrorists and 15 foreign terrorists.
