Khachatryan, who was only 17 at the time, recalls his heart being filled with so much anger and pain that he couldn’t understand how humans could perpetrate such evil against their fellow human beings. Growing up and becoming a father and husband, Mher’s perspective changed and he began to understand that compassion was a much bigger and more effective response than anger.

Over the next few years, Mher dreamed of turning the 9/11 incident into a painting but couldn’t because he always felt like something was missing. But after visiting the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, the smoke artist finally discovered the missing link and was inspired to bring his work to life.

“The video recordings, the audio recordings, the kids that you know are leaving messages for their parents, husbands and wives, they are leaving messages…I couldn’t stay to see all of this, it was just very overwhelming,” he said. he declared. said. “I didn’t have that spark in me until my visit.”
