Three Palestinians were killed by IDF fire on Thursday morning in the West Bank, Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.

Early Thursday morning, a Palestinian Islamic Jihad activist was gunned down after opening fire on Israeli troops operating in Burqin near the West Bank city of Jenin.

The man has been identified as Alaa Nasser Zayoud, 22, a member of the al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist movement. The group later confirmed that they were a member of the organization.

Troops from the border police infiltration unit and the IDF Haruv counterterrorism reconnaissance unit were in the town as part of an ongoing crackdown on a large Hamas cell operating in the area and planning terrorist attacks.

According to the IDF, the troops acted against a number of targets in Burqin, including in the courtyard where a shootout broke out on Sunday between Duvdevan’s troops and an armed Palestinian terrorist.

Clashes later erupted during the arrest operation with Zayoud who allegedly opened fire on the troops. IDF soldiers and border police officers retaliated, hitting him, then confiscating his weapon, a Carlo submachine gun.

The Palestinian health ministry said Zayoud was shot twice in the chest, one in the neck and another in the right thigh. Two other Palestinians were injured in the clashes.

The forces were in Burqin to arrest the suspects and locate the weapons belonging to this cell based on information provided by the Shin Bet internal security agency.

No Israeli soldiers were injured.

In Jerusalem, Issra Khuzaymah, 30, from the West Bank town of Qabatiya, near Jenin, was shot dead by Israeli police after leaving the Temple Mount compound near the Chain Gate around 6.30am and pulling a knife on agents.

The medical forces arrived at the scene pronounced him dead.

No Israelis were injured and following the attempted attack, police temporarily closed the gates to the Temple Mount.

Also Thursday morning, a Palestinian who approached the perimeter fence along the Gaza border was shot dead by IDF troops.

He has been identified as Muhammad Ammar, 41, from al-Bureij refugee camp.

The Palestinian Maan News Agency, citing eyewitnesses, said IDF troops opened fire on a number of farmers.

The IDF spokesperson’s unit said troops had identified three suspects who approached the fence in the northern Gaza Strip, one carrying “spotted digging in the ground and carrying a suspicious bag” .

“Following the identification, IDF forces stationed there fired at the suspect.”

The IDF said it was aware of Palestinian reports of the death and was investigating the incident.

On Sunday, an IDF officer and soldier were seriously injured and five Palestinians were killed by IDF soldiers after armed clashes erupted between Palestinians and Israeli security forces in a wave of arrest operations in across the West Bank.

Both officer and soldier conditions improved, with the officer opening his eyes and breathing on his own. On Wednesday, the soldier started to wake up and was weaned from his respirator.

The arrest raids took place in five different locations, including Qabatiya and Burqin where two Palestinians, including a PIJ member, were killed.

While security forces have arrested around 20 militants belonging to the cell and confiscated five firearms, other suspects belonging to the same cell have yet to be arrested.

Although the IDF believes the raids have dealt a major blow to the cell’s plans, they are still unsure whether the threat posed by the cell has passed and are continuing to dismantle the cell.
